Redwater Dental Clinic

Dr. AJ (Jalota)

My name is Dr AJ (stands for Akshat Jalota- which for most can be too hard to pronounce. AJ it is.) I hope to be your dentist in Redwater for the next 35 years. I live with my girlfriend and our two extremely spoilt fur children - Roger and Annie. Yes, they sleep on our bed. Yes, we talk to them like they are humans.

I am originally from a small town in New Zealand but have called this part of Alberta home for nearly five years. I went to dental school in Australia and have been practicing as a dentist for nearly a decade. I aim to practice dentistry the way in which I would like to have dental care performed on me or my loved ones. The pursuit of providing you with excellence in dentistry is something that is very near and dear to me. I have often been told by patients that I am easygoing and have a calm and comforting chair-side manner.

Since obtaining my dental degree, I have also undertaken further training in complex root canal treatment from King’s College in London, UK. It is known as one of the premiere dental schools in the world.

Since moving here, I too have caught the Oilers bug. You’ll find me watching all the games, listening to all the commentary about it or when I can, at Roger’s. I truly hope that this is the year they bring the cup home. I’m sorry if I have jinxed it now!

Dr. Mitesh Jani

Dr. Jani completed his training in Toronto, Ontario. He decided he would like to continue practicing in Alberta after spending over a year and a half serving the town of Slave Lake and surrounding communities! He enjoys practicing in a small town environment and is looking forward to serving Redwater and surrounding areas and getting to know the community!

Dental Services Redwater

Our dental team is well experienced in all areas of modern dentistry

Children's Dentistry Redwater

Redwater Dental Clinic believes in whole-of-life care. Your trusted dentist for kids, we welcome children of all ages and have patients who come to us as children and maintain a regular regime through their adult lives.

Children's Orthodontics Redwater

During your child's check-ups, we also take a close look at the emergence of new teeth and their position. This way we can find and fix any irregularities before they cause problems for your child when they get older.

Dental Cleanings Redwater

Our hygienists Shauna and Beth both have over 15 years experience. They pride themselves for being extremely thorough yet gentle.

It is generally recommended that you see a hygienist every 3-6 months based on the amount of tartar you build up and the overall health of your gums. This avoids running into bigger and more costly issues such as loose teeth and gum recession.

General Dentistry Redwater

  • White Fillings
  • Root Canals -- to save teeth from being extracted
  • Tooth Removal (extraction) including wisdom teeth.

Orthodontics (Invisalign® and Braces) Redwater

Redwater Dental offers both clear aligners (such as Suresmile and Invisalign®) as well as braces to straighten teeth to improve not just your smile but the overall health of your mouth.

Clear aligner treatment is a series of clear aligners which fit snugly over your teeth in a similar way to a mouth guard or teeth whitening trays. These aligners apply gentle pressure to subtly move your teeth into place. Patients change to a new set of aligners every one to two weeks to continue the movement.

One-visit Crown Technology Redwater

Keeping up with the latest in dentistry, Redwater Dental is proud to offer same-day crowns and bridges. Using 3-D milling technology, we can make your crown in less than an hour. This means no temporaries, no waiting for your crowns or bridges for weeks on end. You leave with a beautifully constructed tooth glued in that very day.

3-D Scanner Redwater

Ever had those goopy moulds of your mouth taken? Ever gagged as a result? Say no more! Redwater Dental has a 3-D scanner that replaces that archaic goop. A camera on a wand takes 3-D pictures of your teeth. This allows us to track how your teeth are changing over time, whether you are actually wearing or grinding your teeth and much much more!

New Patient Forms

The following forms can be filled and submitted online. By filling out these forms ahead of time you will save significant time on your visit. If you have any questions when filling out the form, please do the best you can, and our staff will assist you with your questions on the day of your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I really have to go to the dentist every six months? Do I need x-rays at each visit?

How often you go for a dental exams depends on your oral health needs. The goal is to catch small problems early. For many people, this means a dental exam every six months.

Your dentist may suggest that you visit more or less often depending on how well you care for your teeth and gums, problems you have that need to be checked or treated, how fast tartar builds up on your teeth, and so on.

The answers to these questions are all factors that affect your oral health. They will help you and your dentist decide how often you need to visit for dental exams. It's worth noting that you should not determine your need for dental care on what your dental plan covers.

Do I need x-rays at each visit?

How often you need to have x-rays also depends on your oral health. A healthy adult who has not had cavities or other problems for a couple of years probably won't need x-rays at every appointment. If your dental situation is less stable and your dentist is monitoring your progress, you may require more frequent x-rays.

If you are not sure why a particular x-ray is being taken, ask your dentist. Remember that dental x-rays deliver very little radiation; they are a vital tool for your dentist to ensure that small problems don't develop into bigger ones.

  • Original dental records belong to the dentist who provided the treatment, and not the patient, because dentists have to keep all of their records for a period of time, as set out by their provincial dental regulatory body. Once you have selected a new dentist, you can request that a copy of your records be transferred from your former dentist.

You may be required to sign a release form from your former dental office and you may also be charged an administrative fee for having your records copied and sent to another dental office. If you have questions about the records transfer process in your province, ask your dentist or contact the provincial dental regulatory body.

  • It's important to get an early start on dental care, so that your child will learn that visiting the dentist is a regular part of health care. The first step is to choose a dentist for your child.

It may be your own dentist or one who specializes in treating children (called a pediatric dentist). Once you have selected a dentist, call the office to find out at what age he or she prefers to see child patients for the first time. CDA encourages the assessment of infants, by a dentist, within 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth or by one year of age.

It's important to make the first visit a positive experience for your child - one reason why it's best to visit before a problem develops. If you think there is a problem, however, take your child to the dentist right away, no matter what age.

If you are a nervous dental patient, ask your spouse or another family member to take the child for the appointment. If your child senses that you are nervous, he or she may feel nervous too. When you talk to your child about going to the dentist, explain what will happen without adding things like "it won't hurt" or "don't be scared."

Be sure to get an early start on regular dental care at home. Start cleaning your child's mouth with a soft damp cloth before teeth come in and continue with a soft toothbrush once he or she has a first tooth. Limit the number of sugary treats you give your child, and focus on healthy food choices from the very beginning.

  • There's no getting around the need to get around your teeth daily with dental floss. It clears food and plaque from between teeth and under the gumline. If you don't, plaque hardens into tartar, which forms wedges and widens the space between teeth and gums, causing pockets.

  • Dental x-rays have come a long way and with the current technology in digital x-rays, patients are exposed to up to 70% less radiation than regular x-rays, hence they are increasingly safer. Your dentist's decision to take x-rays always considers the risks and is patient specific.
